I know I'm a few days late on this one, but..
Mark October 27 on your calendar.

Music for you:
Metric - Grow Up and Blow Away

Also, just and FYI - Threadless is having a Back to School sale.. Most of their shirts are $10 now until September 3rd. They even reprinted Flowers in the Attic for the occasion. Go get yours!

the con
"The idea of having this very full life of buying property and getting married and having a job...do these things really ensure any sort of peace in your life?" asks Tegan, "Or is it that ultimately we're just going to die and it's a con that we create all these things around us because we don't really have a say in how it all works out?"
go pick up the latest issue of Filter magazine, and check out the article about Tegan, Sara, and The Con.

repeat, repeat
5 Bands You Should Be Listening To:
5. Death Cab for Cutie
Yes, they are fairly mainstream, but you would be surprised how many people aren't listening to them - people who would love their music. Their album "Plans" is fantastic and mellow, although has a little bit of a bitter-heartache aftertaste.
Besides, DCfC is just more proof that Chris Walla loves you and wants you to be happy.
4. Interpol
I know I've mentioned them before, but they are a very unique and sort of alternative band (in every possible meaning of the word). While their music isn't quite so easy to get a hold of, you can get enough of it on itunes to try it out. I think the air of mystery (or lack of information about them) combined with their fairly established reputation makes them all the more appealing to the "my other favorite band is getting old and i need something new in my playlist" crowd.
3. The Cliks
The bandmembers themselves are as colorful as the music they produce. Rock with a kind of european edge. They aren't really my style, but sometimes you know music is good even if you don't like it. Nonetheless, check them out. If you find you like them, they will be on tour this summer so you will have plenty of opportunities to catch them live.
2. Against Me!
Generally I'm repelled by any "explicit content" labels on music I listen to (not because I'm a prude, but because I just have to ask "why?" Explicit Content labels also wreak of those dirty mainstream rap songs with too much humping and not enough art. That's probably just my personal schema, but whatever). Anyway, I caught up with Against Me!s music because of the Tegan and Sara connection: yes, the ever elusive Sara did some work on their recent album, and both have become consistent plugging fans of the band. Against Me!s music is very much rock, with an indie flair - they almost remind me of a harder version of the 70s rock my parents raised me on. So far I haven't found anything to justify the explicit content, and because the music has been good and of substance, I don't really care. You should check them out because they're up and coming (means their music is probably still cheap, hey?) and awesome. Peer pressure - just do it.
1. Spoon
I am loving this band.
Spoon has some techno (not techno, but i don't know what else to call it when they use synthesizers and cool sounds beyond just guitars and stuff) with their mellow indie tone. But they aren't as mellow as DCfC. You can really get into the songs. They are unique - they don't sound like anything else I listen to, which I consider to be a major plus. They're fun and new-ish.
I can't say anything more other than a tremendous Check them OUT!!
And of course, if you aren't listening to Tegan and Sara, or if you haven't at least checked them out - what's the matter with you?
Finally, here is a picture. So everyone can know what is going on in the background as I type this. :)

That's a Nice Coat
Okay. here's a cool site for you: http://t-shirts-around.blogspot.com
i know, i know, i don't usually just type in the link. whatever.
It's a blog that someone with more time on their hands than any of us uses to post information and links to awesome sites on the interweb for t-shirts.
just click it because i know you love cool tshirts.
here are a couple of my personal favorite links:
BoyGirlParty
Busted Tees
Cotton Factory
ElseWares
Green Squirrel Shirts
Also, there's always Threadless (but I figured everyone pretty much knows about them by now.) I found this whole shebang while continuing my less than successful search for a WWNMD? tee.
other things of note...
my kitten wiggles her tail when she is dreaming. super cute.
i've got callouses on my fingers now, and i'm getting pretty good at the chords... i'll be playing songs in no time!
finally, i'm embedding the new t/s preview of The Con, because I know that if I don't, there will be some of you who don't "happen" upon it, and there will be most of you who don't take the time to seek it out. Besides, it's hilarious and it co-stars Chris Walla and the amazing Emy Storey
and obviously Tegan and Sara.

Tell the East Coast Not to Bother
Why when I put one of my Tegan and Sara cds into my computer (not a burned cd, a real one that I bought from the store with album artwork, extra enhancements and everything) does the computer list it under "media devices with removable storage"??
To me, this indicates:
1) a tremendously lacking security setup on this product
2) a great disrespect to Tegan and Sara by implying that the art that they put so much devotion and time into is "removable"
3) an indication of just how genuinely fragile my Tegan and Sara albums are
or maybe all three.
also, youtube is being a jerk today.
this blog entry brought to you by my new sidebar notepad in firefox, which serves as an endless post-it for all the things I think of throughout the day to say here that I have and would otherwise forget.

Sugar spell it out...
Okay, first and foremost, if you don't already have and use Mozilla Firefox you need to get it. And use it. The number of customizations for it are endless. Imagine having a web browser that is tailored to exactly the type of things you use the internet for on a daily basis: spend a good 45 minutes downloading firefox and picking out your add-ons and themes, and that is what you'll have.
Second of all (this is going to be a bit of a technology oriented post), did you know that google has a new feature called igoogle, which allows you to customize a sort of internet portal where you can receive weather, news, emails, blog/rss updates, and pretty much anything else your heart desires on one page? yeah... go to the google main page ( Here for anyone who happens not to know). You'll need to set up a google account, if you don't already have one. Knowing the lot of my friends (and others whom I humbly imagine to read this) you all are already on the google train for gmail, so you won't need to do the extra work. If you set this google page as your homepage, you'll have all this great stuff first thing when you pull up the internet (your brand spanking new firefox browser, I presume).
I, for example, have my igoogle page set up with the latest blog entries from all over the web related to two or three of my greatest interests (for example, Tegan and Sara). I also have the cnn.com feed, a weather feed, my gmail, and a few other nifty things.
You could learn a lot by just putzing around on Google for awhile. Google has established a plethora of helpful and non-invasive features to make it easier to use the internet (unlike the ridiculous but ever popular..even i use it... Google Toolbar which invades your entire system.)
If you want to search for something you are interested in buying, you can use Froogle. Or you can use google's blog search to find the latest blog entries related to your favorite topics from all over the interweb (and subsequently you can set up these blog searches to deliver summaries of the latest entries to your igoogle page, and lots of other places.)
If you have ever wished there was a hub for all the latest and most interesting news stories, podcasts and videos... there is. of course. Use Digg.com, where you yourself can also submit stories you "digg" up from the surly depths of the interweb and share them with your friends and every other dazed and confused webber.

Finally, a special Tegan and Sara update because it's just that important...
In lieu of the recent 2-month early leaking of their new album, the wonder twins have announced that they will be releasing the new album early on itunes - june 19th hopefully, but june 26th at the latest. They have also added two songs from The Con onto the player on their myspace page, which means you can add the songs to your profile too if you want, as well they have added a preview of the dvd that they will be releasing with the new album (can be found on their myspace page, on my myspace page, and Here)
Now I'm off to pick out a notes feature that lets me take notes of things I want to say as I'm surfing the web so that next time I post a blog, I write about all the important things I had to say, instead of just telling you random shit like this :)
PS, I'm on the hunt for the seller of those "What Would Natalie Maines Do?" (or W.W.N.M.D.?) t-shirts. I want one. The entirety of the interweb has failed me in my search, save a few photos of other people wearing them. Where can I get one?

it's just a fuzzy
time for another musically infused post of unemployed nothingness :)
kitten is growing, and getting into mischief as she should be.
angry to find out this week that the new tegan and sara album has been leaked over the internet (2 months early, no less). while they aren't saying don't download it, tegan and sara have asked that you still buy the record when it comes out, because not only did they work really really hard to put this album together as a comprehensive package (it all goes.. the artwork goes with the music and the lyrics.. a total experience), if they wanted you to see and hear it now they would have released it already. Also, I would like to remind you that they aren't rich, and they don't make that much money doing what they do anyway (nevermind if no one is actually buying the record because they downloaded it illegally for free).
so - 1) buy the record.
2) real fans stay true. don't promote leaking - it's disrespectful to the artists and all their hard work.
i have to add that i love how Subterranean refers to Tegan and Sara as "the wonder twins"
continuing, my artist plug of the day is Kinnie Starr!!!
-myspace
-official website
Tegan did backup vocals for her song "La le la la" (which is awesome, btw).
plus, Kinnie is Canadian. I've given you enough reasons; check her out!
If you're really feeling adventurous, you might also check out Interpol (and myspace). I'm just starting to listen to them, so I don't have a lot to say yet. However, they sound pretty good so far.
As has been my 4 going on 5 year tradition, I've been watching the WCWS (Women's College World Series) on ESPN. It is the NCAA Division I Softball Championship. It is based out of Oklahoma City every year, and the turnout is surprisingly high. Now that Jennie Finch, Alicia Holloway and Cat Osterman have moved on, the window has opened for a lot of new teams to join the running. The Longhorns aren't even in the finals this year. I of course am still cheering for Tennessee, but Baylor, the Washington Huskies, Texas A&M, and Depaul all made maiden appearances. Surprisingly there are no Cal teams to be eliminated (Bruins, Bears or whatever-CalFullerton-team-is-called) which means that TN and the ever pesky Arizona are the frontrunners (this year along with Northwestern University). Anyway, softball is an awesome sport and if you are in the path of this tropical storm and are going to get caught inside tomorrow b/c of rain, you should check out the games on ESPN. Tomorrow (sunday, june 3) Washington will face Arizona at 1pm EST, and Northwestern will take on Tennessee at 3pm EST.
you may also have noticed the change in my blog layout. I photoshopped a couple of different heading designs inspired by tegan and sara songs, among other things. i'm getting better at the ph'shopping and if i could only learn html i would customize my entire layout.
someday.

behavior i just can't grow into
I'm going to try to blog. I've been feeling quite reticent lately.
1) I am now officially only short 1 t/s cd. Acquired This Business of Art while I was in DC earlier this week. In love with it, not that that would be news to you. ;)
2) had lunch with my old (boss?) coworkers on tuesday, and got a push for some other jobs. the interview was okay, but the office environment wasn't as enthusiastic or as progressive as PM. Maybe my standards are too high, but I like to think that it isn't unreasonable to appreciate a lively work environment, or coworkers who seem really into what they are doing (not just as a job).
4) i couldn't think of a number three.
5) I'm halfway packed. I think this is progress, seeing as my family comes in two days, and I still need to be able to live here until graduation.
6) I'd also like to commend myself on progressing from "every article of clothing I own is dirty" to "every article of clothing I own is clean" in a spry 3 hours. w00t.
--->you may not think this is significant, but it is. Why? because i didn't get to take a shower this morning because i didn't have clean underwear to put on afterwards. read: significant accomplishment. means i can shower soon.
7) loved Dc while i was there. LOVED. LOVED. in all honesty i might have loved it more because of the company i kept than anything else, but the smells and sounds and foods i have missed so much.
8) I drove in downtown dc all by myself. and i didn't wreck, or get lost. woohoo!!!! am initiated into the not-a-DC-reject club.
9) thanks to hayjay, i got nerdy this afternoon and dug deeper into the features of my gmail account (and subsequently, the rest of google). Labels and filters are awesome. Also, Google Calendar? Amazing. I organized my inbox. Tagged all my emails, and set up filters so now they tage themselves....muahahahaha! Also read up on Gmail's chat feature, which is like sending quick messages through gmail to your contacts.. like IM through email or something. I saw a coworker use it at work last summer and it was superconvenient.
Anyway, moral of the story.... if you're not on gmail, you should be. If you need an Invite, I have 99 left. :)
10) time only moves in one direction. it never gets earlier.. always getting later, moving forward. It's not like I haven't always known this, I just never thought about it this way before.
"keeps me on my toes
where did the time go?"

it's that damn wisteria...
So we seniors got our fliers for final friday in our mailboxes today. Final Friday is a "meeting" of sorts at which the last few orders of business before graduation are attended to, and then we all get tremendously drunk. I might also mention that this meeting is mandatory. Even the part about lots of free sangria is no longer a lure. Friday will be the day that my family arrives. and KB will be here. and i'll have to legitimately pack up the remainder of my macon years. psh.
i'm going to stop thinking about this right now.
i'm becoming less concerned with the uncertainty of my future as it relates to a job and income, and more concerned...rather, troubled by the idea that so many of the people whom i hold so dear won't be around. Around, not even nearby. not even close. across the country, in various places. I don't want us to all go away. The realization that my friends won't be just a couple of doors down the hall anymore is stunning.
right now i'm trying really hard to enjoy macon, in this very pleasant weather and these almost lazy days. i'm soaking in as much of the campus, and the people, and the smells and sights and sounds that i possibly can. i fell in love with this place as a high schooler, and looking back now i recognize how special this place is, by the fact that it had such an impact on my when i was really just a kid, nevermind the amazing growth that it has brought me in my four years. sure, i'll be the first to tell you that there are many moments when i have truly hated this place. But that love runs deeper than any frustration or sadness i will ever have. This place is part of my soul. And in the end, I will take Macon with me forever. I'm not trying to be narcissistic when i say this, but I'm also convinced that there is no better creature on this planet than the true macon woman. In the end I think many of the people (more than we suspect, surely) who graduate from this place become those rare, true macon women. They are a sight to see, a kindred spirit, and they will always have my loyalty.
these red brick walls have reared me; have borne me and suffered me and elevated me. and i have thrived. for these four years i have struggled because so much of macon is being a "part" of things. And I have been, but it didn't always feel that way. Ultimately though, it is Macon that we are a part of, not it's pieces. and it is Macon that will forever tie and bind us as sisters. I would never have met such amazing women had I gone to any other place. I believe in destiny - that everything happens for a reason. The lives of myself, of my friends, and everyone i've encountered here are inexplicably intertwined forever.
I am grateful for every single moment. For every breath I have taken here.
And finally, co-ed or not, this will always be my home and I will always wish for others the opportunity to take the challenge.
you see, Macon is like survivor. like the amazing race - or the marines (you know.. the few, the proud!). Lots of girls come here; a lot of them transfer. others just never really get it. But the ones who do, who make an impact and get involved, and who can overcome themselves to make it through 4 years... those are the macon women. If you can survive Macon, you can truly do anything.
to those Macon women who read this, I love you. with all my heart. and I always will.
just for good measure... here's a t/s video for you - the song is "I've Got You" and for the record, Tegan says "..and no it isn't about Sara cause that would be weird." :o)
i'm going to stop thinking about this right now.
i'm becoming less concerned with the uncertainty of my future as it relates to a job and income, and more concerned...rather, troubled by the idea that so many of the people whom i hold so dear won't be around.
Y'all are fiiiiiiiiine!
First today, I'd like to share with you something I've found that I think might be the most hilarious run of text I've EVER seen.. hilarious, and yet so accurate.
From the website of Leanne Hurley, writer of the "A Gay Girl's Guide to..." article in Northern Ireland , I would like to provide you with an excerpt from her Guide to a Seven Day Relationship (in hopes, of course, that you will check out her site and read more)
Now, it is entirely possible that I read this with an air of wit and wry that isn't intended, or that you don't share. As such, if you don't find it as funny as I did I won't be offended.

Day 1 (Saturday)Saturday seems to be a pretty popular day for relationships to begin, so we'll
start our journey here. You will, off course, have to leave the house. Heading towards
somewhere you know lesbians hang out is also going to increase your chances - honestly, it
will. If they serve alcohol where you choose to go, drink lots and encourage any woman you
find even the slightest bit attractive to do the same. This way both of you will gradually
develop into goddesses by the end of the evening and you will never have met anyone with
whom you share so much in common.
Hell, it's almost like talking to yourself. She will be amazing, take her home if you can.

Also, after some considerable childhood reflection (like i have nothing better to do) I remembered my childhood obsession with Anna Chlumsky (better known as Vada from My Girl) and dug up this recent (yes, recent. she's 24.) Playbill photo of her confirming that yes, I do still love her just as much as I did when I was 7. Maybe even more. I don't know who, but someone always said that pretty little girls grow up to be beautiful women. Maybe that was just me, or my wishful thinking. True in Anna's case, nonetheless. (don't believe me? here's another pic of her, when she was on an episode of Law and Order; yeah, I told ya.)
I recently acquired some new t/s pics, so if you're a regular, you'll get to see them all as I change them from day-to-day in the next week or so. Some of them are hilarious. Some of them only look good in actual size, so I may upload them to photobucket and just give you the links. Hm. Something to look forward to :)
In other news, I only have 1 week (i.e. 4 days) of undergraduate college classes left.

I'm a Heroine Addict
My t/s point of the day: Tegan and Sara were listed on afterellen's blog post about Guitar Heroines as "the ones that do things they shouldn't"
that's all i'm going to say about that. read it for yourself. you might learn something.
I'm looking at picking out a nice guitar for my graduation gift. i mean, honestly i'm not going to get a car or a puppy. and a guitar is something i can use regardless of where i end up.
i have one at home, but it's not a good one. it's buzzy and it sings for too long after you stop playing (makes it hard to tune, and hurts my ears!) I mean, i wish i had a spare $4000 lying around to drop on a really nice Martin, but I've been wanting a Hummingbird for awhile and Epiphone makes a really affordable version (and it's legit because Epiphone is a Gibson brand, and Gibson makes the real hummingbird blah blah blah). Maybe I can swing one that's a bit more expensive if i pawn my old one off. It would never sell on ebay, but it's decent enough for a local pawn shop. I think that's where my dad and i found it in the first place.
Tomorrow's a big day. hatchet party. yikes.
that's all i have to say about that.
I finished a painting. It looked amazing monday, so i can't wait to see it in the morning.
I smell like honeysuckle! mmm!
I finally watched The Incredibles. It was great. Finally an animated pixar flick that i liked!!!!
NO CAPES!
and finally, I only have 2.5 weeks of college left. (!!!)

Tegan and Sara, 1980 - the con
July 24, 2007
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.
screw harry potter. i've got better things to look forward to.
like in-store promo tour, and big time US/Canada tour!
and holy cow new songs and new merch and more tegan and sara.
right. check out the details at the t/s myspace or website.
I'll be sending off several more job apps tomorrow. it would be more exciting if i could be apartment hunting too, but i probably won't be able to afford an apt all my own, so i won't hunt till i have a roomie. I already have a pretty good idea of pricing and such as well.
Anyone wanna be roomies in DC?
"i would like to extend a hand of friendship to the president, just to say calm down with the threats; there's a new congress in town" --- pelosi
we had a thunderstorm today. like a little half-hour of heaven. it was nice.
the john edwards campaign keeps calling me. they want to give me jobs in iowa. As excited as i used to be about that, i'm just not anymore. plus, after talking to that jackass fratboy from their campaign who called me, is it really wrong to be ignoring them?
i guess it is. hmm.

just to see if i'd fall off
this is really all i have for you from the last couple of days.
going through one of those foggy, sticky places where my brain is trying to get something out, and hasn't yet.
this song is incredible. this video isn't great, but there isn't anything wrong with the music, and that is what counts.
watch it.
